My poor hair has been through a lot. Like, a lot.
It's been digitally permed, box bleached, box dyed, been balayaged, turned into an accidental mullet, unevenly chopped during lockdown, and let's not talk about excessive exposure to heat styling tools.
Enter shampoo and conditioner bars.
I've trialled every shampoo and conditioner under the sun, but never in the form of a bar! Are shampoo bars worth it? After using one for a month, I'll never go back.
If my before and after photo above doesn't convince you to make the switch, then continue reading to find out more about my hair journey.
Week One & Two
My initial impressions were great – from opening the products to using them! I loved the compostable packaging and used the inner sleeve to house the bars in my shower (would definitely recommend investing in a soap holder or an in-shower container).
They were quick to lather and a little went such a long way! After the first wash, my hair felt hydrated and clean without feeling stripped, and the conditioner immediately softened my hair.
Since I didn't have plastic packaging to read, the different coloured bars helped to remember which was shampoo and conditioner.
Week Three & Four
I am officially in love with using shampoo and conditioner bars.
I was seeing less flyaways and lasted longer between washes without my hair becoming disgustingly greasy. Whether I chose to air or blow dry my hair, it became more manageable and had the volume that I'd been chasing.
The biggest plus? I could see and control how much product I was using. In the month I'd been using them, it felt like I barely made a dent. They looked as good as the day I opened them!
If it wasn't already clear, I think you should make the switch and try shampoo and conditioner bars for yourself!
While I used Biode's Into The Sunset shampoo bar and Into The Earth conditioner bar, I highly recommend finding the right one for your hair type - Ethique has a huge range, and their Heali Kiwi Solid Shampoo is an award winner & fan-favourite for sensitive scalps.
