Upon experiencing an allergic reaction to an eye cream, Lotte Tisenkopfa-Iltnerethe, current CEO of Madara, discovered just how many unhealthy ingredients cosmetics can contain and threw all of hers away. Her subsequent unsuccessful search for eco-cosmetics in Latvia led her to first make cosmetics for herself at home, but she soon realised she was not alone in her desire for natural, healthy skin products. Seeing the potential, Lotte teamed up with Zane Rugina and founded Madara Cosmetics in Latvia in July 2006.
