If you’re a lover of all things health and wellness, then you may have come across the term Ayurveda. Wondering what it means? Ayurveda medicine actually originated in India over 3000 years ago! This ancient medicinal practice encourages the use of herbs, dietary considerations and practices in order to achieve wellness. One of the key understandings of Ayurveda medicine is that everything around us is connected. This includes our bodies, our health and the universe. Using these principles, physicians can then individually prescribe certain treatments, herbs, exercise and lifestyle changes that can target illnesses. Ayurveda places a huge emphasis on personalised treatments and considers all elements of your life when discovering the source of an illness.

How can you incorporate Ayurvedic practices into your everyday life?

According to Lee Holmes’ book Eat Right For Your Shape, ’the practice of Ayurveda has three main objectives: to prevent disease, to encourage well being and to promote longevity". In order to reach this balance, Ayurveda recommends eating nourishing foods, detoxifying the body, practicing relaxation techniques such as meditation and eliminating anything in your life that blocks your emotional or physical transformation. As Ayurveda has such a flexible approach to wellness, there are a variety of ways you can incorporate it into your everyday life. These include eating a flavourful diet, getting enough sleep and improving your digestion. Ayurveda also encourages the practice of daily meditation or yoga to relax the mind.
