Natural adult acne treatment
First up, forget the idea that you shouldn't put oil on breakout-prone skin. It seems counter-intuitive, but it can actually be better than a cream-based moisturiser as they may contain an amount of wax. The wax is there to help hold the other ingredients together and create the creamy texture, but for some skin types, this wax can form plugs which block the pores, leading to pimples.
Switching to a facial oil has led to a dramatic improvement in my skin. I have been using a very pure Rosehip Oil, but you could also try a blend such as the Dr Hauschka Clarifying Day Oil, which also contains Sweet Almond Oil, rich in essential fatty acids.
Secondly, forget harsh spot treatments - instead, try smoothing a little Spot Treatment morning and night.
I like the Andalou Naturals Blemish Vanishing Gel, which contains 2% Salicylic Acid to help treat mild forms of acne and blemishes by working to dissolve congestion and unblock pores.
Adult acne and health
Finally, you need to take care of your overall health. If you suffer from recurrent bouts of thrush, you may be suffering from candida - an overgrowth of yeast-loving fungus in the body which may be contributing to your skin. If you suspect you may have candida, talk to your healthcare professional about taking a suitable probiotic and an anti-fungal supplement.
Lastly, it goes without saying... if you smoke - don't. If you drink far too much - don't! Get plenty of sleep and eat a balanced diet rich in fruit and vegetables.
