Foolproof and super flattering on all skin tones and ages, a natural lip is a great go-to look. Why? Because a splash of sheer healthy colour makes skin look more alive and the wearer instantly healthy and glowing.

I just love the idea of lips that feel as though they have nothing really on them, but have that sheer wash of healthy, flushed colour. So I asked Cindy LÃ1⁄4ken, creator of the Luk Beautifood range of 100% natural nude lipsticks to give us a rundown on the perfect nude and neutral shades for you!

The Tea Rose Lip Nourish has the perfect amount and tone of beige and rose to even out your lips and add a touch of healthy pizazz.

Medium skin with yellow (warm) undertones look best with sandy beige lipsticks that contain rosy undertones or even something with a bit of an orangey tint. Jennifer Aniston is good example of a natural beauty with medium skin with warm yellow undertones.

This looks gorgeous on blue eyed blondes. It’s almost like a sheer pastel pink. Add some smudgy eyeliner and mascara and a wash of pinky blush - stunning! (Image: @create.love.heal wearing pink juniper)

LIP TIP: Buff the lips prior to application with a slightly dampened tooth brush to create the perfect smooth canvas.

For light-skinned ladies with slightly yellow (warm) undertones, select a warmer nude shade with a rosy-pink finish. You want more pigment in your nude lipstick than someone who is alabaster or fair with pink undertones. Kate Hudson and Drew Barrymore have yellow undertones to their fair skin.

LIP TIP: For a bit more depth and pigment, apply one layer of lippie, blot with a tissue, and then apply another layer. Repeat.

Tangerine Pomegranate Lip Nourish has more of the coral orangey tones and is perfect for summer parties. This is also a great colour for medium skin tones and suits both warm and neutral skin tones.

If you’re not sure how to tell with you have a warm, cool or neutral undertone to your skin, look at the veins on the underside of your wrist. If your veins appear green, you have warmer (yellow) undertones. If they appear blue, you have cool (pink) undertones. If you can’t tell, or your veins are somewhere in between, you’re probably neutral. You might need to compare to a friend’s wrists to see the difference!

Another way to tell is to use jewellery. If silver, white gold or platinum looks better on your skin, then you most likely have cool (pink) undertones. If gold or rose gold look better on you, then you probably have warm (yellow) undertones.

LIP TIP: Struggling to select a shade? Choose a colour close to the natural tint of your lips and go from there.

The Mandarin Spice Lip Nourish gently colours lips with peachy cinnamon tones and adds lustre to the pout. It’s a great colour for evening or when you want to emphasise your lips.

A neutral lippie with a caramel or beige undertone suits those with medium skin with cool (pink) undertones.

LIP TIP: Apply the lipstick straight from the bullet rather than using a brush for bolder colour that still has a soft definition.

The Chai Shimmer Lip Nourish is a great shade match for those with Olive Skin. It has a sheer browny nude with a slightly shimmery or glossy finish to play up the golden tones and warmth in your skin. Chai Shimmer looks perfect paired with sun-kissed (fake-tan kissed!) skin. The smooth texture brightens up the natural pigment in your lips so they’re not completely bare and imparts just enough colour to keep lips from looking washed out.

LIP TIP: To make your lippie last longer dab on some 100% Pure Brightening Concealer to the lips which will also help give lipstick a base to grip to and allow for a creamier finish.

Error loading image Vanilla Chocolate Lip Nourish is the ideal balance between beige and caramel, and perfectly complements darker skin tones for a slightly more intense finish. This shade looks quite dark in the bullet but it isn’t nearly as dark as it looks when applied. Remember, we’re talking sheer nudes and neutrals here, not deeply pigmented lip colour.

The chocolate colours to play up the highlights and shadows in your lips and build definition. Avoid colours that are too light ’ you want to choose shades that are close to your lip tone for a more natural-looking effect. (Image: @create.love.heal wearing Vanilla Chocolate)

LIP TIP: Apply the colour with your index finger and tap into the lip to blend for a soft, natural-looking pout.

Not sure of your skin tone or indecisive about which lippie to choose? Nude Cinnamon Lip Nourish suits every single type of skin tone and occasion because it is almost bare!! Pair healthy, hydrated, nude lips with a bold brow and you'll be the embodiment of relaxed chic!
