Sometimes, preparing for cold and flu season can feel like you're heading into battle - you really need to arm yourself!

The best way to beat a cold is to be prepared. You and your family need to ensure your immunity is at an all time high, so if that dreaded cold and flu bacteria does manage to get through to you, your body will be ready to fight it off in no time.

Stay warm, stay hydrated and stay well-nourished, and keep these handy, all natural and toxin free remedies on hand to arm yourself and your family for cold and flu season.

Food based remedies

Something that I keep handy all year round is the Nutra Organics Vegetable Broth Powder. These broths come in a number of different flavours (they're all delicious!) but I love the Garden Veggie variety as each 6 gram serve is equivalent to one entire daily serves of vegetables! This vegan alternative to regular stock contains Kale, Pumpkin, Broccoli, Carrot and Sweet Potato to provide you with immune-boosting Zinc, B-group Vitamins and bio-active Calcium along with antioxidant Vitamins A, C & E, Magnesium, Iodine, Folate and 72 other trace minerals. This broth tastes amazing, plus it's the perfect winter immune booster!

Another cold and flu season essential is Comvita's Natural Olive Leaf Extract. Olive Leaf extract is traditionally used in Western herbal Medicine as an antioxidant agent and to support the immune system, which makes it perfect for anyone wishing to relieve cold symptoms like a sore throat or cough. This particular Olive Leaf extract is made from freshly picked olive leaves and may also assist in maintaining blood sugar levels, maintaining a normal cardiovascular system, supporting normal glucose and blood pressure, and cholesterol levels in healthy individuals.

Vitamin & Supplements

We all know how instrumental Vitamin C is in beating the common cold, which is why I'm always armed with Fusion Health Vitamin C 1000 Advanced. When taken regularly, Vitamin C may help to reduce the duration of colds and flu as well as helping to clear musuc and soothe sore throats, coughs and mild fevers. Each Fusion Vitamin C 1000 Advanced tablet is buttered to make it gentle on the stomach, contains 1000mg of Vitamin C and 5mg of bioavailable zinc glycinate to help support the immune system.

A new addition to my cold and flu defence front line is The Beauty Chef Well Spray, which contans Calendula, Sage, Elderberry, Olive Leaf, Peppermint and Clove Bud Oil, along with Olive Leaf Extract to support immune health. Antioxidant-rich Selenium is included, which also supports a healthy immune system. This is such a handy product to keep at your desk or in your handbag as all you need to do is spray it into your mouth (it tastes of sage and peppermint!) to help nurture your immunity, digestive health and overall wellbeing.

Another incredible natural, highly potent immune tonic is Kiwiherb's Echinature. Echinacea has been traditionally used in western herbal medicine to maintain the health and function of the immune system, and this liquid supplement combines organically grown Echinacea Purpurea with organic Manuka Honey to really give the immune system a natural boost!
