1. Swap single use cotton pads for reusable cotton pads
Each time you use a cotton pad to apply your micellar solution or remove your eye makeup, it's contributing to a rather large waste problem. The solution is simple - switch your single use cotton pads for a reusable option!
We love the Life Basics Reusable Cotton Pads, which are made from super soft 100% certified organic cotton, and can simply be popped in a laundry bag (which comes with the pads!) and cleaned with your regular washing.
2. Replace your sheet masks with reusable face masks, oils and serums
We love a weekly home spa night as much as anyone, but we choose to steer clear of single use sheet masks as both the masks themselves and their packaging ends up in landfill. Instead, we reach for a Base Collective Ultra Infusion Reusable Mask.
This silicone face mask allows you to apply your favourite serum, oil or moisturiser, then layer the mask over the top and allow it to maximise the absorption of your product of choice.
3. Switch to a refillable deodorant
Rather than a traditional deodorant, opt for a refillable variety. We love the ASUVI Refillable Deodorant which is natural, clean and sustainable. It can be easily refilled with an ASUVI eco-friendly deodorant cartridge, and there's even an option for sensitive pits!
4. Keep your empties as travel containers
This is a really simple tip to implement. Rather than throwing your empty products into the garbage, wash them thoroughly and store them with your toiletry case.
On your next trip, be it an overseas getaway or a long weekend staycation, decant some of your existing beauty products into your empty containers. This will save you from wasting the original containers, and it will save you from having to purchase (and waste) travel-sized products!
5. Go packaging free!
Better yet, opt for packaging free beauty products where possible! While it may not be possible to keep your entire beauty routine packaging-free, you’ll be surprised by just how many products do come in packaging-free options now. We love Ethique who have a huge range of products including shampoos, conditioners, body washes, deodorants, facial cleansers and scrubs in bar form!
6. Switch to a biodegradable toothbrush
Your dental routine can be a surprisingly large source of household waste. Rather than using a traditional plastic toothbrush, with a handle and bristles that are non-recyclable, try a biodegradable toothbrush like the Life Basics Bamboo & Charcoal Toothbrush which is completely plastic free. You can even try switching to natural toothpaste from Grants of Australia and trying Grin's Biodegradable Dental Floss Picks.
