SunButter sunscreen was first produced in 2016 by marine biologists Sacha Guggenheimer and Tom Hiney, who had a need for a high-quality and effective natural sunscreen that caused no harm to the Australian marine life and coral reefs amongst which they worked. They started by making the original SunButter sunblock for themselves and their team by hand but felt they needed to expand to share their mantra of Protecting People & Oceans.
Following their successful Kickstarter campaign, SunButter Oceans was launched in Australia in 2019 and its SPF50 sunscreen quickly became a sought-after product, both in stores around Australia and online. As well as caring for the oceans with their own products, SunButter Oceans donates ten per cent of all profits to organisations that protect and conserve our planet's wildlife and environment, including 1% for the Planet, which is a global organisation that connects funds with non-profit organisations working to preserve and restore the natural environment.
