Sugar Coated

Sugar Coated is the brainchild of Rosie Khandwala, who grew up in Tanzania where her mother and older sisters taught her how to sugar wax. Working in her cousin's salon allowed her to learn the techniques that gave the best and gentlest results. However, when she and her young family moved to the UK in 1987 she was amazed to find that sugar waxing wasn't available, so she started making her own and, together with her husband, introduced sugar waxing to the UK market. Rosie developed her own unique, gentle recipe that eliminated the need for potentially irritating citric acid and, in 2020, Sugar Coated is still the only company in the world making a sugar-based hair removal product from just sugar and water.

With over 30 years of knowledge and experience, which included successfully manufacturing, supplying and retailing her products, Rosie launched Sugar Coated in the UK in 2018. It remains a family-owned and -operated business with ethical and eco-friendly manufacturing at its core. All products and packaging are produced in the most environmentally friendly way possible and all packaging is 100% recyclable.

Sugar Coated is also mindful of the need to support bees and protect their colonies, which is why it donates excess sugar syrup to local Northamptonshire beekeepers. Sugar syrup and water are an excellent alternative food source for bees when the weather is too cold for the bees to find nectar.
