Upon experiencing an allergic reaction to an eye cream, Lotte Tisenkopfa-Iltnerethe, current CEO of Madara, discovered just how many unhealthy ingredients cosmetics can contain and threw all of hers away. Her subsequent unsuccessful search for eco-cosmetics in Latvia led her to first make cosmetics for herself at home, but she soon realised she was not alone in her desire for natural, healthy skin products. Seeing the potential, Lotte teamed up with Zane Rugina and founded Madara Cosmetics in Latvia in July 2006.
Over thousands of years the cold, harsh, Latvian climate with its very short summers has evolved plants with extraordinary healing properties. During the summer, plants concentrate all of their energy on the brief blossoming period, meaning they accumulate a unique amount of active substances that are especially powerful and effective. Madara takes these plants and, through intensive scientific research and dermatological testing, discover the benefits hidden within.
Scientific validation is required for every selected ingredient and final product, and Madara insists on using only truly effective ingredients, making honest claims, using environmentally friendly packaging, and showing care and respect for its customers. All Madara skincare products and cosmetics are safe, have been crafted from Northern Baltic plant extracts, and 99% are certified natural and organic by ECOCERT to take care of both your beauty and health. Madara never tests its products on animals.
Madara now operates internationally, retaining its headquarters in Latvia. The brand name, Madara, is the Latvian name for bedstraw, or wild madder, an evergreen flowering herb that commonly grows in Baltic meadows.
This brand has confirmed to us that any ingredients which contain a palm oil derivative are EcoCert certified and as such are supplied with RSPO Certificates to prove their sustainable origin.
