We're all well-versed on the importance of applying sunscreen on a daily basis, and particularly during summer, but have you ever read the ingredients list on the back of a typical supermarket SPF tube? You'll find that they often contain a list of chemicals which may irritate the skin.
Given that we're all about toxin-free living, our warehouse shelves are now well-stocked with many natural sunscreens designed to provide protection from UVA and UVB rays while nourishing your skin. Here's a review of the different natural sunscreen options we have:
Eco Tan Natural Coconut Sunscreen SPF 30+
Ideal for all skin types, you'll love the summery coconut scent of the Eco Tan natural sunscreen comes in both a clear and a tinted version. The slightly flesh coloured option is ideal for use on the face as it won't leave behind any white residue while offering protection for the face. For your body, you can try their untinted, clear sunscreen version which is also in SPF 30 and offers three hours of water resistance. These are the ultimate go-to products for those days that you want to lounge about on the beach, green juice in hand. Better yet, the formula is chock-full of hydrating Jojoba Oil, Rosehip Oil and Vitamin E so you can reap the multi-tasking benefits of skincare and sun protection all at once.
Eco Face Sunscreen SPF30+
Given that sunscreen is one of the most important parts of our skincare regime, it is worth investing in one that is designed specifically for the face product. This silky, non-greasy, hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic lotion is perfect for suitable for all skin types as it won't clog pores or cause inflammations, and can be used under your natural makeup as a moisturising primer.
Eco Body Sunscreen SPF 30+
A do-it-all sun care staple, Eco Body's SPF 30+ Sunscreen contains the highest safety ranking from the EWG, and offers up to three hours of water resistance as well as 30+ zinc oxide protection from the sun. The formula is lightweight and absorbs seamlessly, infusing the skin with a plethora of hydrating antioxidants like Green Tea, Grape Seeds, Shea Butter and Jojoba that will leave the skin feeling as soft as butter.
WOTNOT Sunscreen SPF 30+
This organic sunscreen is one of the highest natural SPF options in Australia. Also free from chemical UV-absorbers, it uses Zinc Oxide as the active ingredient to deflect the sun's rays. I really like this one for the kids! I find for myself it's slightly oily so better for taking to the beach and using on the legs and body rather than the face. The great thing about the natural oils in the formulation is that it doesn't dry out the skin like some sunscreens can. I find this sunscreen also has a slight cooling sensation that's perfect for the warmer weather.
Soleo Organics Sunscreen SPF 30+
This all-natural, multi award-winning organic sunscreen is ideal for Summer and all year round use. It's gentle enough to use on the face and body, as it contains absolutely no chemical UV-absorbers, no synthetic preservatives and no titanium dioxide. It does instead contain Zinc Oxide in a base of beautiful natural oils, botanical extracts and antioxidants that protect and nourish the skin.
Mukti Tinted Moisturiser SPF 15
As an SPF 15, this is a cosmetic item with added SPF. A great multi tasking product, it is a light foundation and moisturiser in one. The multi-tasking hybrid contains a healthy cocktail of Aloe Vera, Green Tea, Shea butter and Rosehip combined with a hint of Patchouli, Ylang Ylang and Mandarin essential oils to hydrate, nourish and help blur imperfections. The non-greasy, lightweight formula is ideal for all year round when you want a bit of subtle coverage paired with glowing skin.
So hopefully you'll be able to make your ideal choice of natural sunscreen this summer and keep your skin protected and looking beautiful now and for years to come!
With all sunscreens avoid contact with eyes and if irritation persists discontinue use. Sunscreen is only one part of sun protection. Wear protective clothing, hats and sunglasses when exposed to the sun, and stay in the shade where possible. Prolonged high-risk sun exposure should be avoided. Frequent reapplication and use in accordance with the directions is required for effective sun protection. Always read the label and use only as directed.
